John Marchand was elected Mayor in November 2011, and served on the Livermore City Council since November 2005, including four terms as vice mayor. Before his election to the City Council, John worked for fifteen years on the community’s behalf as an elected representative on the Zone 7 Water Agency Board of Directors. In addition, John was a founding member of the Livermore Cultural Arts Commission and served on Livermore’s General Plan Review Committee.
As Mayor, John Marchand believes in the protection of Livermore’s exceptional quality of life and unique values. He is a leader that listens to residents and respects their opinions. John supports smart growth not sprawl, the preservation of viticulture and the scenic hillsides surrounding Livermore, and the exciting iGATE Innovation Hub.
John Marchand worked for over thirty years in the water industry. He recently retired from his job as the Senior Water Quality Chemist for the Alameda County Water District in order to dedicate his full-time attention to Livermore. He holds a Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences from California State University Hayward, recently renamed Cal State East Bay. John is active in the American Water Works Association and is the co-author of 3 books on water quality.
John was born and raised in the Bay Area. He and his wife, Susan, a Livermore teacher, have lived in Livermore for over twenty-five years, and raised two sons in the community.
