(September 10, 2013, Sunnyvale, CA) – With the assistance of China Silicon Valley, Mayor Anthony Spitaleri of Sunnyvale was joined by seven government delegations from the city of Haikou, China to discuss building “Friendship Cities” between the two cities.
The delegations from Haikou, China expressed their willingness for a long-term business partnership with the government of Sunnyvale and welcomed investments in high-tech industries and business opportunities from Silicon Valley.
“Sunnyvale government is committed to facilitating the business cooperation between Asian and U.S.” says Mayor Anthony Spitaleri. Who also shared successful experience from the City of Sunnyvale: the government is building true partnerships with companies, working closely to understand companies’ needs, and providing important supporting resources. Stable government service and financial flexibility are major reasons why companies are eager to cooperate with the Sunnyvale government. Moreover, he emphasized that the independence of Sunnyvale city government from U.S. Federal Government allows projects to move forward more efficiently from application to implementation.
Mr. Zhu Rong, Consul of Consulate General of China, emphasized, by accounting for 45% of the venture capital in the U.S., Silicon Valley is the center of innovation. “Consulate General of China based in San Francisco is the second largest consulate in the U.S.” He further states, “Closely working with commercial associations in Silicon Valley, we provide a platform to connect various business parties between China and Silicon Valley.”
Victor Wang, the co-president of China-Silicon Valley and President of Hanhai Investment, stated that China Silicon Valley is one-stop network of service provider for government relations, legal tax, consulting, talent, real estate, etc. “We provide various projects for investors from both sides”, said Mr. Wang.
Stephanie Xu, the co-president of China Silicon Valley and First Vice President of EastWest Bank, expressed that EastWest Bank understands the value, and are willing to provide financial supports for companies to expand the cross-border exchange and investment.
China Silicon Valley co-president Victor Wang and Stephanie Xu hosted the meeting. The Haikou delegation group was led by Zhongting Tan, Director of Human Resource and Social Security Administration in Haikou, China. Zhu, Rong, Consul of Consulate General of China also attended the meeting. Other attendees included the business partners of China Silicon Valley: Thomas Shoesmith, Senior Partner and China Practice Leader of Pillsbury law firm; Elgin Brian Mason, Senior Vice President of the Private Client Group at Colliers International; and Bob Staedler, 17-year veteran of real estate and development projects.
